The Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP) is hiring Policy Intern to start immediately till the end of 2011. The intern will provide research, report-writing and conference-preparation support for CCAP’s projects focused on developing-country climate change mitigation policies. S/he will be responsible for conducting research on developing-country climate and energy policies, carbon markets, sustainable transportation policies, and low-emissions development. Further, the intern will assist in preparing presentations and conference materials, as well as helping with general preparation for upcoming climate change conferences. The intern may regularly liaise with outside experts and policymakers and on occasion will be asked to pitch in with fundraising and relationship-building efforts. S/he will report to Senior Policy Staff and/or Project Manager. The position may be open to extension depending on CCAP’s internal requirements and the candidate’s performance during the internship period. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct research and analysis on developing-country climate and energy policies, carbon markets, sustainable transportation policies, and low-emissions development.
- Prepare high-quality deliverables such as case studies, policy reports, memos, etc. with guidance or supervision from Senior Policy Staff/Project Manager.
- Regularly liaise with outside technical consultants, experts, and international policymakers on various assignments.
- Prepare presentations/conference materials for upcoming conferences and help with general preparation for these events.
- Fundraising, relationship-building, and other responsibilities, as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate for this position will be an articulate professional with experience in climate and energy policy, carbon markets, and/or sustainable development. The candidate will ideally hold a Bachelor’s degree in public policy, environmental science, or a related field; preference will be given to candidates with an advanced degree. Additionally, ideal applicants will possess many of the following professional and personal abilities, attributes and experiences:
- Knowledge of climate or environmental policy and experience in policy analysis;
- Ability to conduct research on complicated policy issues in relevant areas, especially in circumstances where information availability is limited;
- Superior oral and written communication skills in English with the ability to write for both policy and analytic audiences;
- Experience in organizing high-level conferences or events;
- Advanced organizational skills, attention to detail, and timeliness with deliverables;
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment; and
- A sense of humor, adaptability, humility, and creativity.
