Overview

Help the health care industry go green! Project partners, Maryland Pesticide Network and Beyond Pesticides, are seeking a project director for the on-going Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in Health Care Facilities and Community Outreach Project. The project aims to eliminate unnecessary pesticide use in hospitals and other health care settings. This project seeks to stop the use of toxic pesticides and promotes the adoption of green management practices in places of healing, where patients are especially vulnerable to the diseases linked to pesticide exposure: cancer, asthma, birth defects, neurological damage, and more.

Description

The project director travels mainly in Baltimore and throughout Maryland working with various health care facilities to create a healthier building management, free of unnecessary toxic pesticides, through the implementation of indoor IPM and organic land care programs. The project also coordinates with local government agencies and local groups to encourage and facilitate transition to pesticide-free communities.

The project director coordinates an IPM team, which includes staff from project partner organizations and several consultants. The project director is responsible for: 1) ongoing consultation, facilitation and training regarding IPM implementation with current health care facilities involved in project; 2) outreach to additional facilities to educate them about IPM, organic land care and the project; 3) development of educational materials, quarterly newsletter, reports and surveys; 4) work with pest management service providers in meeting the least-toxic IPM goals of health care facilities; and, 5) Community outreach to educate the public and Baltimore City service industries, including markets and restaurants about pesticides and safer alternatives. This staff member will be responsible for keeping all those associated with the project informed of ongoing activities. The project director may work out of either the Baltimore, MD or Washington, DC office.
