Description

Identify information needs of the Florida Sea Grant Program and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) programs related to sea level rise, external programs pursuing sea level rise conservation issues, and serve as a point of contact on issues related to sea level rise and natural coastal ecosystems for FSG and the FWC (20%)

Provide written reports and presentations on sea level rise issues, opportunities and projects, including presentations and other materials that can be used by FSG and FWC extension, outreach and education staff with stakeholder groups (20%)

Seek to fill data gaps not being addressed by external entities related to sea level rise and natural coastal ecosystems by attending meetings and workshops and monitoring funding opportunities and applying for external grants that will further the goal of incorporating sea level rise into coastal natural resource conservation and planning (20%)

Assist in developing the Coastal Wildlife Conservation Initiative specific to sea level rise through work with state agencies and local governments (20%)

Lead development of community-based education and extension programs for Florida Sea Grant specific to sea level rise and its projected effects on coastal natural resources, working in collaboration with Florida Sea Grant’s Climate Outreach Coordinator in regard to the intersection of effects of sea level rise on the built environment and natural ecosystems (20%)

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in the field of coastal zone ecology, planning or management is preferred
Bachelor’s degree in the field of natural resources, coastal zone ecology, planning or management
At least two years of post-baccalaureate professional experience in coastal ecology, planning or management
Substantial knowledge of the science of climate change, sea level rise, and coastal ecology
Demonstrated competence in (1) initiating and completing projects with minimal supervision; (2) working effectively and communicating with diverse audiences, and (3) interpreting technical information and relating it in nontechnical language to local community concerns
Experience in public outreach/extension is highly desirable
A high level of analytical, organizational and planning skills
Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
