Title: Biodynamic Research Program Coordinator

Location: Work from a home office anywhere in the United States is acceptable assuming a willingness to travel three or four times a year to the Biodynamic Association offices in Wisconsin and/or other locations as necessary.

Hours and Compensation: This is a one year contract position with potential to continue on an employee basis after the first year; compensation will be based on experience and qualifications. We estimate it will require approximately 27 hours a week or be roughly equivalent to a two-thirds-time position.

Overview

Biodynamics is a worldwide movement for the renewal of agriculture based on an understanding of the spiritual forces at work in nature, in human beings and in human social life. From this understanding, a particular form of organic farming has been developed that continues to grow and evolve around the world.

The Biodynamic Farming and Gardening Association (BDA) is an association of individuals, groups, and organizations in North America who are committed to the transformation of the whole food system, from farm to table, and who draw inspiration from the spiritual-scientific insights of Rudolf Steiner.

Description

The Biodynamic Farming and Gardening Association is accepting applications for a part-time Biodynamic Research Program Coordinator who will help launch the research program of the Association and facilitate a planning process for a long-term collaborative research project. The successful candidate will have a strong background in biodynamics and program development and will be conversant with scientific research and methodologies.

Responsibilities

  1. Work with the Biodynamic Research Working Group (BDRWG) steering team and Senior Research Advisor to facilitate planning for a collaborative, long-term, multi-disciplinary research project.
  2. Collect and review past biodynamic research as a basis for the collaborative research project.
  3. Seek funding, with support of the BDA Director and other staff, for the implementation of the collaborative research project.
  4. Act as point of contact for people seeking information about biodynamic research in general and the work of the BDRWG in particular.
  5. Stay current with happenings in the world of biodynamic research, nationally and internationally, and attend meetings and conferences as necessary for this purpose.
  6. Help organize biodynamic research symposia.
  7. Develop the research section of the Biodynamic Association’s website and write regular updates on biodynamics to be shared via the Association’s journal and e-newsletter, etc.
  8. Coordinate the work of the BDRWG with other activities of the Biodynamic Association, participating in staff and board meetings as needed.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in biodynamic agriculture
  • BS/BA Required. MS/MA preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with project management and program development
  • Ability to work with and lead groups
  • Ability to read, critically evaluate, and distill scientific literature
  • Ability to develop online materials
  • Ability to read and translate German (preferred)
