VPIRG is looking to fill one of the best jobs in the state: VPIRG’s Clean Energy Program Director.  We are looking for an individual who will excel in what can be a position of tremendous responsibility and influence.  We have the opportunity to transition Vermont to a clean energy economy that will provide an example for the rest of the nation to follow, and we need a strong leader to help make that promise a reality.
You will supervise our experienced clean energy advocate, perform strategic planning with our Executive Director and Field Director, and be part of a great team atmosphere at the state’s leading environmental and consumer protection organization.  Strong people skills are a must, as you will work directly with legislators, regulators, the Governor’s office, community leaders and VPIRG members.   Energy policy expertise is highly desired to help you facilitate an aggressive transformation in Vermont away from fossil fuels in the electricity, transportation, and heating sectors.  We will consider applicants from other issue areas with proven advocacy skills and leadership. This is a full-time, exempt position based in Montpelier.
About VPIRG: VPIRG’s mission is to promote the health and well-being of Vermont’s people and environment by informing and mobilizing citizens across the state. For 40 years we have represented the public’s voice, countering special interest influence on issues of public health, the environment, consumer protection and democracy. VPIRG’s work has helped keep Vermont on the cutting edge of critical state and national issues, including the fight to close the Vermont Yankee nuclear reactor, banning dangerous toxic chemicals, and passing one of the most progressive health care systems in the nation–a model the rest of the country can follow. We identify innovative solutions and build the political support necessary to put practical ideas into action. The organization has 12 full-time staff and a summer field staff of 30. Our annual budget is ~$1.5 million. You can find more information about VPIRG and our campaigns on our web site at:www.vpirg.org.
