Description

Under the Green Jobs, Green New York program, Outreach Coordinators are charged with educating home owners, community leaders, businesses and the general public on the benefits of energy efficiency and renewable resources, and increasing participation in the NYSERDA programs, with particular emphasis on GJGNY.

 

Coordinators partner with local agencies/organizations to conduct outreach and increase awareness of NYSERDA programs and incentives, thereby extending the reach of NYSERDA programs throughout their region.

 

The Outreach Coordinators’ responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

– Increase the awareness of NYSERDA residential programs in the region. This requires Coordinators to have a working knowledge of NYSERDA’s Residential programs, to include Green Jobs Green NY, Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, Assisted Home Performance, and EmPower.

 

Coordinators are expected to:

 

– Develop creative new ways to promote GJGNY in such a way as to serve Mid-Hudson

communities’ energy efficiency and climate protection goals;

– Provide information and opportunities to help residential customers manage and reduce their energy costs through home performance assessments and energy retrofits;

– Provide assistance to energy-related businesses and entrepreneurs in the region by

implementation of initiatives that increase the awareness of local and NYSERDA business assistance services that are available to early-stage clean energy businesses.

– Work with planners in their communities to ensure that energy is addressed in local

ordinances and growth plans;

– Maintain a database of partnerships and projects

– Demonstrate ability to work effectively with volunteers and to mobilize activism.

– Demonstrate experience in event planning and media relations.

 

This position will require extensive travel throughout the region. As such, the successful

candidate must have a driver’s license and a car and a willingness and ability to travel

locally and through the region.

 

This position will require participation in evening and weekend events. As such, the

successful candidate must be flexible in terms of work schedule.

– Excellent verbal and written communication skills ñ able to communicate with multiple

audiences including public officials, business owners, property owners and residents.

– Experience in grassroots organizing, community outreach, and/or coalition building.

Leadership/Management

 

– Leadership experience, especially with constituency-based organizations.

– Excellent project management skills: detail-oriented, extremely organized and able to

prioritize and manage multiple projects at once.

– A track record of achieving measurable results.

– Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines under time constraints.

– Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.

– Entrepreneurial self-starter, creative, collegial, hard-working, and demonstrates a positive attitude and strong ethical fiber.

Industry/Relevant Knowledge

Foreign language fluency a plus.

– Knowledge and background in environmental issues or other related issue advocacy.

– General knowledge of power markets.

– An interest in the environment and a commitment to reducing energy use.

– Familiarity with the region and have experience working with city officials and/or knowledge of city initiatives in sustainability issues preferred.

– Have some familiarity with (or ability to learn quickly) New York state and municipal

legislative and regulatory organization and process.

– Background in building science, residential/commercial energy efficiency and/or

renewable energy.

Qualifications

– A Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, natural or environmental

science, engineering, architecture, planning or related discipline, or

– An Associate’s degree plus five years of relevant experience as described above.

Dependable transportation required.
