Description:
The Queens Zoo seeks an experienced educator to help design and present a wide range of educational programs for school groups, teachers, children and families and general zoo visitors.
Responsibilities:
1.Conducts education classes, tours, lectures and special events as needed.
2.In cooperation with Curator of Education, designs courses, programs and special education events for WCS members, the general public, scout groups, school children and teachers.
3.Prepares and assists in the production of literature and related materials for program use, including writing animal information sheets and volunteer information.
4.Conducts special demonstrations involving live animals as events may warrant.
5.Aids the public in their information needs at such times as Annual meetings and other public events.
6.Maintains cooperative relations with members of other museums and school systems.
7.Assists Manager with marketing and promoting all education programs to schools and general audiences.
8.Assists with registration procedures for all programs.
9.Assists Volunteer Coordinator and Manager with the developing and teaching with volunteer training course and continuing education programs.
10.Supervises the Queens Wildlife Volunteer Program as needed.
11.Assists with the care and maintenance and handling of the education animal collection as directed by the Animal Dept. Supervisors.
12.Performs all related tasks and duties as required.
13.Contributes to, enlarges and upholds the Society’s policies toward the Equal Employment Opportunities.
Qualifications/Skills:
At least two years of program development and teaching experience for diverse audiences including adults. Experience and knowledge of incorporating inquiry-based strategies into programming. Candidates should be outgoing, creative and capable of working in a team environment. Must be work flexible hours, including some weekends. Must possess a NYS driver’s license. Masters degree in a science or education related field a plus.
