Hours and Compensation:
Salary commensurate with experience. Actual salary will depend on qualifications and anticipated contribution to the Foundation.
UNF pays 100% of medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance premiums for its employees and 75% of medical and vision for employees’ dependents.

Description:
The Senior Associate, Energy will provide the day to day operational management for the work of the UN Foundation in support of the new UN Secretary-General’s global Sustainable Energy for All Initiative in which the UN Foundation is a key partner. This international initiative is focusing on an ambitious global energy agenda supporting a range of objectives including achieving universal access to modern energy, doubling the rate of energy efficiency and doubling the amount of renewable energy in the global energy mix by 2030.
Reporting Relationships/Scope: The Senior Associate reports to the Senior Director, Energy Access.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day to day operations of the Sustainable Energy for All initiative, including tracking action items, coordinating outreach, managing contacts, and drafting correspondence; support the operational work of the Global Practitioner network on Energy Access and contribute to planning the work of the network.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of an array of global events initially focused on the 2012 International Year of Sustainable Energy for All, including the Rio+20 Summit, as well as other key events in support of Sustainable Energy for All.
  • Track in detail key areas of and make recommendations for UN Foundation to advance the work of the Sustainable Energy for All Initiative.
  • Conduct outreach to and foster strong working relations with partners, particularly within the UN system and associated organizations within the Sustainable Energy for All initiative.
  • Coordinate the department’s work in planning and management of a range of international events including travel and other logistics.
  • Provide research and writing support to the initiatives on policy and program development.
  • Prepare issue and meeting briefs and progress reports for both external and internal purposes.
  • Prepare analyses with recommendations, and attend key meetings to represent the Foundation’s point of view.
  • Supervise interns; and
  • Other tasks and/or duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Master’s degree preferred in relevant area such as international relations or environment.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years prior management experience, including a background in events and operations in a fast-paced environment required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including strong drafting ability
  • Familiarity with international issues, and the role of the UN.
  • Background with international energy, environmental, climate and bioenergy issues.
  • Excellent multi-tasker, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple, competing priorities consistently.
  • Team player who is also able to work independently and is a self-starter.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Diplomatic and able to work effectively with leaders across a range of government, private sector and civil society organizations.
  • Personal commitment to UN Foundation’s vision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint and Raiser’s Edge.
