Regional Plan Association is a non-profit research, planning and advocacy organization whose purpose is to develop long-term plans for the New York metropolitan region that consider the environmental, economic, and social impacts of growth and the region’s capacity for development. Each summer RPA hires summer interns to work with staff on a wide variety of projects.

RPA is seeking undergraduate and graduate students with strong writing and research abilities and an interest in regional policy. Relevant areas of study include urban planning, architecture and urban design, environmental studies, transportation, and economic development.

Summer internships are full time, based in RPA’s Manhattan office or satellite offices in Princeton, NJ and Stamford, CT. RPA’s summer internship program runs from the beginning of June through the end of August. Internships are generally unpaid, but offer great opportunity in experience and practical training. Summer interns also gain exposure to a wide variety of projects through weekly brown bag presentations with members of the RPA staff. RPA is an equal opportunity workplace, and we encourage applications from members of under-represented groups in the fields planning.
