- Maintaining a high level of communication with the Executive and Legislative Branches of State Government with respect to coordinating programs, securing ongoing funding, implementing current projects, addressing legislative concerns, and responding to inquiries in a timely and effective manner.
- Coordinating with partner agencies, particularly the cities of San Diego, Santee, the County of San Diego and non profits to develop project priorities and funding sources.
- Ensuring compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and other statutes and regulations applicable to SDRC’s activities.
- Developing and implementing funding programs, including grants and other fund raising activities.
- Representing SDRC in relations with the general public, community groups, media and other interested constituencies.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate is a motivated, adaptable and innovative leader with experience in the management of conservation programs. A familiarity with public and private financing, particularly, general obligation bond funded grant programs is preferred. The successful candidate will be a seasoned executive from the public and/or private sector, with land conservation, environmental planning, and/or non-profit management experience, who will possess the strategic understanding, relationship skills, and political astuteness to implement the Board’s vision.
Particularly desirable are: the ability to maintain an effective administrative structure and build partnerships, knowledge of State and local government budget and procurement practices and processes, and experience in fund raising. Other helpful attributes are familiarity with land acquisition techniques, habitat restoration, trail development, the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), site improvement projects, contract negotiation and management of natural resources and public facilities.
Specific qualifications are as follows: Education and Experience Extensive professional experience in land conservation, environmental planning or protection, or related field, with at least five years of management experience is expected. A Bachelor’s degree is required. A Master’s or professional degree in a related field, such as urban planning environmental resources, business, law, or public administration is preferred.

Working directly with the Executive Director and program staff, the James E. Rogers Energy Fellow will contribute to the overall direction for the forums, conduct limited original research and writing, agenda planning, financial development of the forums, and convene workshops and other events. The Institute’s highly-regarded energy and environment forums are situated at the intersection of energy policy and markets with a particular (but not exclusive) focus on power generation, transmission and distribution; oil and gas development and production; and the environment.This is an extraordinary opportunity to contribute to the Institute’s strategic convening role in discussing energy and environmental policy issues with over 300 distinguished participants and diverse stakeholders every year in Aspen, Colorado.
Responsibilities:
- Program lead for convening the Institute’s premier energy forums and roundtables.
- Content specialist on energy, business and regulatory issues, present and future.
- Operational and administrative responsibility for organizing 3-4 annual energy forums.
- Program-assisted fundraising and sponsor development responsibilities.
- Writing, editing and producing program appropriate materials and commentary.
- Interacting with the Institute’s membership and participating in Aspen programs and activities.
- Educating a broader public audience through media interviews and public speaking.
Qualifications:
- 10 – 12 years professional experience; advanced degree or equivalent expertise required.
- Legislative, policy and regulatory experience and/or significant business experience preferred.
- Working understanding of domestic and international energy business and regulatory policy including but not limited to hydrocarbon development and production, utility markets, renewable or clean energy, energy efficiency, and environmental policy.
- Outstanding communication, writing and editing skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide array of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated proficiency in project planning and organizing; supervisory and/or management skill.
- Ability to work independently with good humor while also flourishing in a small program team.
- Accustomed to delivering against timelines under pressure; not intimidated by time limitations.
- Familiar and comfortable with demands of economic and financial program development.
- Firm grasp of the Institute’s mission as well as the strategic purpose, role and reputation of the Energy and Environment Program within the energy and environment policy community.
The ideal candidate will be flexible, entrepreneurial, and adept at developing partnerships, with the ability to manage fundraising efforts and to communicate easily with donors and sponsors. Strong candidates will have extensive contacts among higher levels of government, academic, philanthropic, media, and business communities, and will be comfortable working with high-ranking decision makers, senior government officials, current and potential funders, and Aspen’s senior management. The Fellow will be expected to competently lead issue-focused meetings, high-level forums, and other events, and maintain relationships with representatives of governments and agencies, international organizations, members of Congress, and executive branch personnel.

Description: CPI offers a challenging environment that requires independent thinking, collaboration, and pragmatic problem solving. The role of Analyst supports the deliverables of CPI’s international Climate Finance workstream, focusing on issues such as the governance of international funds, the evaluation of their allocation and effectiveness, and the design of innovative climate finance instruments that effectively align public and private interests.
The Analyst undertakes robust and careful analysis, drawing on methodologies from micro- and macroeconomics, public policy, regulatory economics, finance, behavioral science, risk management, statistics, law, engineering, and other academic and commercial disciplines.
In conducting analysis, the Analyst is required to work in close cooperation with a range of international partners from the policy, finance, and corporate spheres, as well as with CPI teams throughout the world. Previous work experience with climate policy, finance, regulation, and carbon markets, as well as knowledge and understanding of national regulatory institutions and/or multilateral or bilateral financial institutions and national or regional development banks and/or private finance institutions are valuable assets.
This position reports to the Senior Director of Climate Finance.
Responsibilities:
- Perform rigorous quantitative evaluation of national and international climate finance mechanisms and climate and energy policies.
- Under the direction of the Senior Director of Climate Finance, design, manage, and implement complex research assignments and analytical projects.
- Engage clients throughout the research process, and advise policymakers on the implications of research findings.
- Assist in the writing and editing of high-quality CPI products, including full reports, executive summaries, blogs, and presentations.
- Communicate and collaborate with CPI staff working around the globe.
- Produce high-quality materials on short deadlines.
Qualifications: The successful applicant will have the following minimum qualifications:
- BA or BS degree; Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Public Policy, or a related, quantitatively rigorous field strongly preferred.
- 2+ years of experience analyzing climate finance, economics of policy choices, and/or energy and climate markets, government or multi-lateral experience valuable.
- Understanding of current climate and energy policies under discussion in relevant countries, with a specific focus on the interaction with finance.
- Experience in financial modeling and/or macroeconomic modeling of energy and climate markets.
- An insightful, independent, analytical mind with a strong track record of applying sound political and strategic judgment in complex situations.
- Outstanding English writing and verbal communication skills. Comfort with communicating complex qualitative and quantitative analyses to expert as well as non-technical audiences.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Professionalism, enthusiasm for working as part of a team, ability to interact with a diverse array of people, and a sense of humor.
