Description
The Environmental Planner I assists with projects by providing timely, accurate, and cost efficient professional environmental planning services in the office and in the field for both KLJ internal practice areas and external clientele. This involves the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Duties and who this individual reports to will fluctuate between projects, Practice Areas, and offices.
Responsibilities
- Professional planning under the supervision of the project manager or supervising engineer or environmental planner.
- The NEPA process requires an interdisciplinary approach; therefore, creating a strong team with project engineers, planners, and the other professional staff is essential for success of these projects.
- May work independently or with other planners and outside groups.
- Will exercise a degree of independent thinking, creativity, and initiative in the performance of these duties.
- Supports the project manager in conducting public meetings and gathers public input on a variety of topics.
- This may also include varying degrees of assistance with agency coordination, public involvement, impact assessment, document preparation, progress reports, and legal compliance.

Qualifications
At a minimum of a Bachelors degree in planning, environmental studies, natural resources, or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university is required and 0-5 years of experience. The individual must interact with people at all levels and communicate effectively. Strong computer skills, detail-oriented, self-starter, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential. A valid drivers license if required.

Responsibilities
The CVSG Summer Intern will assist with one or more projects of the Business & Society Program (final project(s) to be determined depending on start date of internship and interests of Summer Intern):
- Work on one or more projects of the Corporate Values Strategy Group. (Check online for more about our current projects.) The Intern would be expected to make meaningful contributions to research projects (one will be focused on the topic of quarterly earnings guidance) and events that will bring business executives, investment professionals, academics and other experts together to explore issues that will impact the future of business practice and education. This assistance will include primary and secondary research and possibly some assistance with event logistics.
- In 2012-13, the Aspen Institute seeks to engage business leaders, together with leaders from other sectors, in a “design challenge” to answer the question: over the balance of this century, how can capitalism evolve to best serve society. As part of this project, the Intern will assist a senior staff member in developing and distributing a series of essays on capitalism written by prominent thinkers, and will help research potential CEO-level participants for a 2013 senior dialogue on this topic.
- As time permits, the Summer Intern may assist with other work of the Business & Society Program.
Qualifications

Help us tackle one of humanity’s greatest challenges! USCAN seeks an intern for three to six months to assist with policy and outreach activities. You will learn about domestic and international issues relating to climate change, including the international climate change negotiations, energy issues, and Clean Air Act issues. You will also become acquainted with the federal policy-making process and the various players and positions in the climate movement.
The position is located in our Washington, DC office. This internship offers a monthly stipend of $500, help obtaining college credit (if needed), and negotiable start and end dates.

- Assist International Coordinator and Program Director/Domestic Policy Director with activities relating to international and domestic climate change policy
- Attend briefings, congressional hearings, and coalition meetings
