Description: Greenpeace USA is seeking a skilled, creative and passionate palm oil campaign to join our forest team. The palm oil campaigner will focus on palm oil as a driver of deforestation in Southeast Asia with an emphasis on Indonesia. NREL’s Strategic Energy Analysis Center has an immediate opening for a graduate student intern to assist NREL scientists in evaluating water management tradeoffs in the electricity sector as well as in unconventional oil and gas development.
Responsibilities: The intern will join a team of researchers who analyze vulnerabilities and tradeoffs of the energy sector in relation to water resource availability and water resource management practices. Specific projects include efforts to characterize previous historical power plant vulnerabilities associated with water temperature and water availability and unconventional oil and gas water management. Duties include data collection, database management, analysis of results, and summarizing findings. Communication with project sponsors and industry partners is also expected. Authorship of reports or subsequent papers is possible depending on depth of contribution. This project will last through the Spring 2015 semester, or longer is possible depending on interest and performance.

The Center for EcoTechnology is seeking six qualified college graduate candidates for a one-year paid fellowship position to work with our staff and other EcoFellows to carry out community outreach, school education and other activities related to climate action initiatives and educational programming in western Massachusetts. Activities will support the CET’s initiatives to assist residents, students, institutions and businesses across the region in ongoing programs in energy efficiency, home energy services, renewable energy, and waste reduction through recycling, reuse and home composting. The Fellowship offers a full orientation and week-long training by CET professionals in subjects related to above programs, as well as professional development exploring a variety of environmental topics throughout the fellowship. Fellows will be based in CET’s Northampton office.
Responsibilities:
- Implement the Go Green Campaign – encouraging residents to take practical steps in home energy efficiency and personal behaviors choices towards a sustainable future.
- Work with office staff on the documentation of home energy assessments, reviewing contracts, and supporting customer service to optimize our field and office efforts.
- Assist field staff in home energy assessments, reviewing residential homes for potential energy efficiency measures and assist homeowners in behavior changes to improve their efficiency savings. Support field staff in communicating the program’s energy savings, financial implication and return-on-investment.
- Assist field staff in performing home energy ratings of newly constructed homes, including field visits to the homes to inspect energy efficiency measures and assisting builders who seek to build more energy efficient buildings.
- Support the CET Green Team, and work on Greening CET through energy and waste reduction programs.
- Monitor progress for the CET Mission Impact Report and energy efficiency campaigns to reduce use.
- Additional customer service support tasks assigned as required.
Qualifications:
• We are looking for creative and energetic college graduates (bachelor degree required) with an interest in education and outreach along with a familiarity with issues related to energy efficiency, renewable energy technologies, climate change, recycling and resource conservation. Previous experience through volunteering, internships and/or professional work is required.
• Commitment to the entire Fellowship program, from August 10, 2015 to June 30, 2016, is required.
• Fellows work a flexible schedule (40 hrs/week) that requires some evening and weekend hours as needed.

How EDF Climate Corps Works
Rigorous Selection We choose top-tier graduate students from our pool of applicants based on the needs of host organizations. We take into consideration student skills, experience and location preference in determining placement.
Expert Training In May, we host a weeklong training for our fellows with EDF experts and sustainability consultants. The curriculum covers energy efficiency, sustainability strategy, carbon accounting, building systems, financial analysis and more. See the 2014 training agenda.
Professional Experience Every summer over 100 EDF Climate Corps fellows hit the ground running to work on-site at their host organizations. They spend 10 to 12 weeks on customized energy projects.
Final Deliverables At the end of the summer, each fellow presents his or her findings to their host organization and submits a final, actionable report of their work.
Follow-Up After the fellowship ends, EDF staff follow up with each host organization to find out whether fellow recommendations are being implemented. Also, EDF convenes all of the fellowship alumni and host organization participants for its Annual EDF Climate Corps Network Event.
