Description: The coalition will engage in a series of actions over the coming year to educate the public on the value of the clean air safeguards to Virginia and the health and health care implications of efforts to weaken the law or failure to enforce it. The Coordinator will plan, develop, implement, and evaluate a well-coordinated and comprehensive Virginia campaign (including grassroots advocacy, media advocacy, and direct lobbying) to protect clean air safeguards from being weakened, dismantled or unenforced, and work proactively to secure important new clean air safeguards at the federal and state levels. The incumbent will report directly to the CEO.

Responsibilities: Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as primary campaign contact for the American Lung Association (ALA) and partner organizations and primary staffer for the Healthy Air Coalition
  • Recruit state and community level health and health care organizations and groups to grow existing broad-based statewide Healthy Air Coalition
  • Maintain ongoing communications with coalition partners, Congressional members and staff, state-level legislative and administrative decision-makers and staff, and other stakeholders
  • Represent ALA and the Healthy Air Coalition at public meetings
  • Develop tools for recruiting, training, and mobilizing partner organizations
  • Identify and cultivate grasstops who have a relationship with key decision-makers
  • Collect compelling personal stories of those negatively impacted by air pollution
  • Organize and train grassroots advocates
  • Provide issue briefings on air pollution and health, the Clean Air Act, and the federal policy landscape relevant to this campaign
  • Assist in organizing a variety of media events, with duties including, but not limited to, event logistics, media outreach, and generation of earned media
  • Create campaign collateral, messaging, action alerts, letters to the editor, op-eds, press releases, and testimony as needed
  • Strategically integrate social media into campaign efforts
  • Use campaign successes and challenges to generate supporters, advocates and donors both online and off
  • Plan, organize and execute in-district meetings during Congressional recesses
  • Manage campaign budget
  • Work independently in achievement of individual and grant goals as well as working collaboratively with a team to support the American Lung Association of the Mid-Atlantic’s goals

Qualifications:
Education:

We are seeking motivated individuals to be science interns in our Washington, D.C. office. This position, available March 2015, is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of conservation and technology, serving as a liaison between Panthera’s Tigers Forever Program and the Panthera Technology Team. Responsibilities:

– Analyze and track state legislation of interest to sportsmen.

– Serve as a clearinghouse for information relevant to state sportsmen’s caucus legislators about sportsmen’s issues, including pertinent federal regulatory/legislative issues.

Operations

  • Develop, document, update, and implement operational and financial policies and procedures.

  • Negotiate and administer contracts and assure compliance with contract provisions.

Finance – The Executive Director will work with the Finance Director to:

  • Manage the finances of the organization including development and implementation of the annual budget.
  • Manage and supervise the finances of all program areas including fundraising, program expenditures, and financial reporting.
  • Oversee the accuracy and timeliness of accounting, billing, and expenditures as required for the organization’s financial health.

Strategic Planning and implementation

  • Working with Board members and Outreach Director, oversee implementation and evaluate community outreach, public education and informational programs and activities that reflect HCCA’s mission.
  • Define goals and evaluation criteria for programs; review and report results of programs and activities and make recommendations for future improvements.
  • Identify emerging issues and make recommendations to the Board of Directors.
  • Become fully familiar with program areas: Save Red Lady, Public Lands and Water.

Qualifications: The Executive Director will have demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience to successfully carry out her or his duties in each of the primary areas cited above. In addition, the Executive Director will have demonstrated:

  • Strong leadership, management, organizational and public speaking skills
  • Successful fundraising skills, including a strong background and proven record in donor development and grant writing
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, advanced degree preferred

Description: Hudson Valley Seed’s Garden Educator will implement and help develop Hudson Valley Seed’s curriculum-integrated garden program. The Garden Educator will be working in the Newburgh City School District bringing students out to school gardens to teach academics and nutrition through experiential garden learning. The Garden educator will administer lessons both indoors and outdoors, teaching students Hudson Valley Seed-curricula year round. The Garden Educator will work closely with participating school teachers, parents and community members, and will work to build the foundation of the organization as it grows to work with more school districts and students. The garden educator will work closely with the rest of the Hudson Valley Seed team as they collectively educate 1,500 students each week across Putnam, Dutchess and Orange Counties.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach weekly garden programs to approximately 15 classes each week in the Newburgh City School District, teaching in both an indoor and outdoor setting.
  • Assist with garden lesson planning including working with other staff to develop materials, communication with schools, and documentation of programs.

  • Implement Hudson Valley Seed weekly garden programs including maintaining necessary annual paperwork, providing resources for teachers, modeling place-based and inquiry learning through teaching, assisting schools with correlating curriculum to NY Frameworks, keeping records of time spent on programs and writing an annual report.
  • Participate in regular Hudson Valley Seed staff meetings.
  • Assist in writing program descriptions for newsletters and program guides.
  • Outreach into the Newburgh community, including acting as liaison to PTAs and partnering community organizations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience – preferred work experience in environmental education, education or related field.

Helped secure over $7 million dollars to ensure the protection of 5,800 acres of working farmland.

Created an agricultural program that promotes working farms and provides logistical support, including a successful match program with 25 farms on over 1,000 acres of land (as of June 2012).

Assisted with open space and trail development, conservation planning and agriculture issues throughout the County, including workshops and conferences, coordinating funding initiatives, and fostering partnerships among towns, county government, and allied conservation organizations.

Description: CCAP is seeking a proactive, creative policy thinker and manager with outstanding analytic ability, well developed people skills, and experience putting together successful policy initiatives on the ground. The Director will be an integral part of CCAP’s Mitigation Action Implementation Network (MAIN) initiative, which seeks to catalyze the development of win-win climate change mitigation and sustainable development policies in developing countries in Latin America and Asia. He/She will be responsible for leading the development and financing of climate mitigation actions, and directing analyses to design low carbon climate strategies for developing countries. S/he will also contribute to CCAP’s thought leadership on climate policy in international forums, such as the UNFCCC and the Green Climate Fund. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Developing and directing technical, economic and policy analyses on climate mitigation strategies in developing countries in collaboration with host country decision makers and key stakeholders
  • Engaging international, regional, and national development banks and public and private financial institutions in financing transformational mitigation programs and projects
  • Helping to develop and write CCAP’s positions on international climate policy and climate finance
  • Representing CCAP at international conferences
  • Fundraising and strategic planning for the program.
  • Directing and supervising staff both in Washington and in the field

The expected salary range is $90,000-$120,000, commensurate with experience.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience conducting technical, economic and policy analyses with a view to designing a comprehensive project proposal or business plan with minimal oversight. In addition, s/he will have an in-depth understanding of current international climate policy issues as well as strong management, analytic and communication skills. Qualified candidates should possess many of the following attributes and experiences:

  • At least 10 years of demonstrated experience conducting technical, economic and policy analyses with a view to designing a comprehensive project proposal or business plan with minimal oversight;
    • Proven ability to engage with high-level officials from governments, and the private sector;
    • In-depth knowledge of current international climate policy issues and knowledge of mitigation actions in the energy (including renewable energy and energy efficiency), waste, and transport sectors. In addition, knowledge of various financing alternatives, trends in international finance and solutions to overcome specific financial barriers and/or influence policy barriers desirable;
    • Experience working in Latin America and/or Asia;
    • Experience managing people on analytic and development projects;
    • Superior quantitative skills, oral and written communication skills in English with the ability to write for both policy and analytic audiences;
    • Fluency in Spanish a plus;
    • Master’s degree in public policy, environmental economics, business, finance or related field;
    • Ability to travel internationally up to 30% for periods of up to 2 weeks at a time;
    • The flexibility and proven ability to be a team player in a collaborative environment;
    • Strong people skills including a sense of humor, adaptability, humility and creativity.
