The waterfront design guidelines will be a critical tool in creating a waterfront that is accessible, vibrant, and ecologically friendly, doing so in a way that is regulatory permissible and affordable. The guidelines will direct communities, developers, architects, landscape architects, community boards and others to design the waterfront edge in ways that meet existing regulations but also surpass what is minimally required by existing rules and regulations. Over time, when coupled with an incentive program, design guidelines can influence waterfront edge design in many projects, helping to transform the New York City waterfront and waterfronts throughout the region.
MWA will bring together a team of waterfront stakeholders, civic partners, regulators, representatives from MWA’s Task Forces, the real estate and development community, the recreational community, and leading ecologists and engineers in the region who will work with MWA to develop content and complete the design guidelines. MWA will then work to disseminate the design guidelines to waterfront owners, communities, and stakeholders and incentivize the design features through an incentive system loosely based on using the US Green Building Council’s LEED program which has successfully encouraged energy efficient building design.
Responsibilities

Requires working directly with and coordinating senior government officials and business executives.
– Gather input from and communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders and communities in order to develop guidelines content. Once completed, work with stakeholders and communities to ensure dissemination of the guidelines and its incentive program.
– Coordinate closely with other MWA staff, relying on them for input and execution of project deliverables.

– Assist in executing major portions of MWA’s task force meetings and conferences.
– Assist in grant writing and development tasks as necessary related to MWA’s waterfront design guidelines program and others.
