GMRI’s Sustainable Seafood program seeks to achieve an ecologically and economically sustainable seafood industry around the Gulf of Maine. Working with all parts of the supply chain, inclusive of harvesters, processors, retailers, and restaurants, the program stimulates market pull for responsibly harvested seafood from the Gulf of Maine. This work includes assisting seafood retailers in the development and implementation of sustainable sourcing policies and creating market leverage for responsibly harvested seafood products with the Gulf of Maine Responsibly Harvested branding program.

The Sustainable Seafood Culinary Partners program engages the food service sector in promoting Gulf of Maine seafood and contributing to sustainability initiatives. Working with research staff and other partners throughout the region, the Sustainable Seafood program also develops training opportunities for fishermen around strategies to decrease by catch, habitat impacts, and fuel consumption while increasing profitability through improved quality handling and marketing of product.

Description:

The Sustainable Seafood Project Manager will provide Gulf of Maine fisheries content expertise while growing and stewarding the Culinary Partners program. This position works with the Program Manager to establish interest in GMRI’s efforts, develop communications around sustainable seafood for the industry and consumers, organize support programs, and evaluate success of the program.

The Project Manager will interact with a variety of stakeholders, including fishermen, seafood industry leaders, conservation organizations, retailers, and restaurants, with a focus on restaurant interaction. This may include networking at conferences and meetings and direct outreach to groups such as restaurants and sectors.

To inform consultation with industry, the Project Manager will maintain familiarity with federal and state policy actions, as well as the latest in stock assessments and research. The Project Manager should develop an understanding of supply chain issues and should also be familiar with global seafood sustainability issues.

The Project Manager will translate complex information into consumable pieces for the web or print targeted at supply chain participants, restaurants, or consumers. Similarly, the Project Manager will assist in communicating about the efforts of the Sustainable Seafood program, including tweeting, developing web content, preparing annual reports, and documenting case studies.

Working with the Program Manager, this position will develop and implement a strategy to evaluate the effectiveness of the Sustainable Seafood Program’s efforts, both on a project basis and for the program as a whole. This evaluation would incorporate anecdotal evidence and analytical data.

As an integral part of GMRI’s Community team, the Sustainable Seafood Project Manager will participate in staff meetings and support GMRI’s commitment to convening diverse stakeholders, engaging the community in marine issues, and facilitating quality dialogue throughout the Gulf of Maine.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct outreach to restaurants to grow and deepen engagement in the Culinary Partners program and to understand members seafood information needs;
  • Work with participants in the Culinary Partners program to document achievements against continuous improvement goals;
  • Develop and execute a monthly newsletter and a continuing education seminar for Culinary Partners;
  • Develop communications tools for Culinary Partners;
  • Maintain familiarity with the latest in federal and state management of the regions fisheries, as well as the science regarding harvest levels;

Qualifications:

Education/Work Experience

  • Undergraduate degree and at least three years work experience involving the seafood or analogous industry; or
  • Post graduate degree in a relevant subject and one year work experience involving liaison /development work with the seafood or analogous industry.

Description:

The Vice President for Climate and Energy is an exciting new position and will be a member of the organization’s senior leadership team overseeing the strategic direction and effectiveness of the Climate and Energy program. The Climate and Energy program encompasses Earthjustice’s work on fossil fuel energy, clean energy, greenhouse gas controls, and related domestic and international climate and energy issues. This is the first of three VP positions that we are hiring for in the coming year to strengthen and deepen our core program areas of climate and energy, natural heritage, and healthy environment.

From a people perspective, the VP of Climate and Energy will report to the President of Earthjustice and will provide management and leadership to climate and energy managing attorneys.

In partnership with the other program VP’s, this position integrates efforts across offices and departments. The VP is well-grounded in the work of the organization both factually and legally, and seeks to maximize funding opportunities and efficiently manage the climate and energy program.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Direction and Vision for the Climate & Energy Program

  • Provides strategic leadership to ensure the development and effective prosecution of far-reaching, high impact litigation.
  • Collaborates with managing attorneys and other relevant staff, to ensure that Earthjustice climate and energy advocacy achieves strategic program goals.

Description:

As You Sow is seeking an Energy Program Manager to work under the supervision of As You Sow’s President. The Energy Program is responsible for in-depth research and analysis, strategic planning, direct dialogues with corporate management, filing shareholder resolutions, writing technical reports for investment professionals and proxy analysts, attending and speaking at conferences and annual shareholder meetings, writing press releases, pitching media, delivering program reports, as well as working with the staff development team to write foundation grants and reports to funders. This position involves: in-depth research of company financial and environmental reports; tracking and monitoring data on legal, policy, and corporate announcements; analyzing company exposure to financial, environmental, regulatory, legal, and reputational risks; benchmarking best practices in the industry, and; developing the business case for a transition to energy efficiency and low-carbon energy sources. The position also involves working in coalition with partner organizations to support university students and other civil society sectors to promote divestment and carbon-free reinvesting in clean technology opportunities by endowments. This includes regular coordination with coalition partners, resource generation, and developing and executing trainings. (S)he will also help to build out As You Sow’s clean technology reinvestment strategy and manage resource generation and awareness building. The Energy Program Manager also monitors all shareholder advocacy engagements and serves as the primary liaison with investor allies to secure shareholder authorization and proper paperwork for resolution filings. The Vineyard Habitat Network intern will assist with the Vineyard Habitat Network (“VHN”) and a range of related tasks in stewardship, office duties, and work with other interns. The intern will be expected to write up a summary of his/her internship for submittal to the foundation that is funding this position.

Start and end dates for this position are flexible but the position will not exceed six months in duration. The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) is hiring a Director, Annual Fund (Catalyst Circle). This is a newly created position that will be responsible for designing and developing a high-touch program that moves donors up the giving pyramid. S/he will manage a portfolio of donors and prospects who are giving $5,000 and up. Responsibilities:

• Design and implement a vision and plan for the Catalyst Circle program that will inspire donors to engage with the organization and give generously
• Manage the Catalyst Circle program for the effective qualification, stewardship and solicitation of donors including: donor qualification meetings, regular mailings, personal treatment strategies, cultivation and retention events, email communications, donor teleconference calls and other tools
• Understand and communicate EDF’s complex programs effectively to donors
• Work with Program and Development staff to qualify every donor in the portfolio and design a matching treatment plan
• Proactively design and implement strategic treatment options and schedules to renew, upgrade and retain donor segments within this portfolio, working closely with the Membership department and major gift portfolio managers
• Partner with Prospect Research and others in the organization to identify prospects for the program, then collaborate with other team members to attract, cultivate and transform these prospects into Catalyst Circle donors
• Develop increasing financial goals for the Catalyst Circle program and ensure they are met
• Track and record all relevant information in EDF’s database
• Design and produce reports and analysis on donor revenue, demographic trends and other performance measures as necessary
• Work closely with membership department to ensure seamless treatment of donors
