Gillian Osborne
Faculty, Language and Thinking Program
Biography: Gillian Osborne's (B.A., Comparative Literature and Society, Columbia University; M.A., Creative Writing, University of California, Berkeley; Ph.D. Candidate, English, University of California, Berkeley) poems have appeared in The Threepenny Review, Zyzzyva, and elsewhere, and her poetry manuscript, Green, Green, was a finalist for the Yale Younger Series of Poets in 2012. When she's not writing poems, fiction, or book reviews, her writing is directed toward a series of essays on the precarious interplay between environmental materialism and lyric subjectivity in nineteenth century American authors (Emerson, Melville, Dickinson, and possibly Poe). She has delivered or published academic papers on Audubon, Dickinson, Melville, and Frost, and taught at Bard, Berkeley, San Quentin Prison, and at a high school in Japan. She grew up in the Hudson Valley and lives in California.Contact:
