Biography: B.A., Wesleyan University; M.A., Ph.D., University of California, Berkeley. Recipient, Bundeskanzler/Humboldt, DAAD, and Foreign Language Area Studies (Czech) fellowships. Specialization in modern European intellectual and cultural history and the history of science and technology. Research interests include history of the social sciences, systems theory, and computing/cybernetics in the two Germanys. Author, Ernst Cassirer and the Critical Science of Germany, 1899-1919 (2013, Anthem Press/London). Articles in Perspectives on Science, Science in Context, Simmel Studies, and Qui Parle.
