Biography: Maika Pollack (B.A. Harvard, M.F.A. Columbia, M.A., Ph.D. Princeton) Her dissertation “Odilon Redon and the Color of the Unconscious,” looks at psychology, painting, and theories of vision in fin-de-siècle France. Her writing on contemporary art and culture has been published by Artforum, The New York Times, Interview, ArtNews, and she was the museum exhibition critic for The New York Observer from 2011-2015. Catalogue essays include PS1 Contemporary Art Center and the Château de Nyon, Geneva. Co-founder and curator of Southfirst, a contemporary art space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn that has presented experimental exhibitions for more than a decade, her shows have frequently been reviewed in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Art in America, ArtNews, and Artforum, among other publications. Pollack has served since 2005 on the faculty for the Language and Thinking Program at Bard College, and currently teaches Art History (modern and contemporary) at Sarah Lawrence college.
