Nana Adusei-Poku

Biography:

Nana Adusei-Poku is a scholar, educator, and curator whose work centers on cultural shifts and how they articulate through the intersections of art, politics, and popular culture; artistic production from the African diaspora; and critical pedagogy in relationship to decolonial aesthetics. Before coming to Bard’s Center for Curatorial Studies and Contemporary Art, she was Visiting Professor in Art History of the African Diaspora at The Cooper Union and Research Professor for Visual Cultures at Hogeschool Rotterdam, with affiliation to the Piet Zwart Institute and Willem de Kooning Academy. She also served as guest lecturer at Zurich University of the Arts. She received her PhD from Humboldt University of Berlin following degrees in African and gender studies, and in media and communications at Goldsmiths, University of London. Adusei-Poku has also been visiting scholar at the University of Ghana, London School of Economics, and Columbia University. Her articles have been published in Nka Journal of Contemporary African Art, e-flux, Kunstforum International, Flash Art, Darkmatter, and Yale’s Theater Magazine. She curated the immersive event performance No-thingness at the Academy of Arts Berlin; the year-long program of events Longing on a Large Scale in conjunction with Todd Gray's Exhibition Eucledian Gris Gris at Pomona College Museum of Art; and was co-curator of No Humans Involved at Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art, Rotterdam.
