The innovative and interdisciplinary Computational Sciences program offers a B.A. in computer science, leads a new program in Data Analytics, and collaborates with several programs across the college including Environmental Studies, Experimental Humanities, and Mind, Brain, Behavior. Successful applicants will be part of an incoming 4-person cohort within the expanding Computational Sciences program. We seek candidates from diverse disciplines who represent the interdisciplinary application of Statistics in the social sciences, environmental sciences, humanities, natural sciences, or physical sciences. Potential areas of interest include but are not limited to computational social science, finance, physical sciences and statistical computing. Excellent candidates with other research interests will also be considered and are encouraged to apply.
This role offers the unique opportunity to contribute to innovative curricular approaches for teaching statistics across Bard College’s programs, spanning sciences, arts, humanities, and social sciences. Successful candidates will be committed to innovative undergraduate teaching at a liberal arts college with a diverse student body; maintaining an active research program; contributing to the general education curriculum; and engaging with the life of the college.
Responsibilities: Teaching responsibilities will consist of statistics-oriented courses at all levels that contribute to the Data Analytics program within Bard’s Computational Sciences program. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to teach quantitative reasoning, statistical concepts, and programming in R using Tidyverse workflows.
Responsibilities of the role include five courses (or equivalent curricular load) per academic year; senior project advising; participation in Data Analytics curriculum development activities; development of full-term courses, workshops, side-car courses, and a faculty data analytics training program; student advising. Specific teaching responsibilities include introductory, intermediate, and advanced Statistics courses, primarily in the context of interdisciplinary data analysis.
Qualifications
- Ability to teach statistical concepts, quantitative reasoning, and programming in R using Tidyverse workflows
- Demonstrated potential to effectively teach novice to advanced level undergraduate courses
- Experience or interest in pursuing active learning and project-based learning pedagogies
- Strong communication, organization, and team collaboration skills
- Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the university’s continuing commitment to diversity and inclusive pedagogy
- A PhD in a relevant discipline by start date (ABD will be considered)
- Formal education in statistics and data analytics methods, or active engagement in scholarship involving advanced data analytics techniques

Compensation: $88,750-$91,500
This salary range reflects the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for the position at the time of the job posting. Salary decisions are dependent on several factors including but not limited to market and organizational considerations, experience, and qualifications of a selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
