BHSEC DC Boys Basketball Team Wins First DCIAA Title in School History
After “their third straight upset of the tournament,” the Bard High School Early College DC boys basketball team captured their first DCIAA title in the school’s history, writes Spencer Nusbaum for the Washington Post. Though the new BHSEC DC building features a basketball court, the win was made all the more impressive by the fact that this season the team “did not have its own basketball facilities and traveled to different locations around the city for practice.” Coach Malcolm Battle attributes the team’s accomplishment to the players’ tenacity. “My guys, their fortitude is exceptional,” Battle said. “The credit goes to those kids for believing in the vision.” Senior Darius Leonard BSHEC ’23, like the rest of his team, was elated at the victory. “Everyone said Jackson-Reed and McKinley Tech were going to wipe us,” he said to the Post. “We beat the big dogs; now we are the big dogs. We run this city.”
