Early College Model Jump-Starts Students’ Educational Careers, Writes Dumaine Williams ’03 for Education Reform Now
“Many of us who work closely with adolescents ... are familiar with framing the importance of education for young people as ‘Your main job is to be a student,’ or a similar sentiment,” writes Dumaine Williams ’03, vice president for student affairs and vice president and dean of Early Colleges at Bard, for Education Reform Now. Williams says this likening to a career is no mistake, and that “similar to career decisions, our individual educational pathways significantly impact our lives.” The early college model, pioneered by the Bard Early Colleges, has proven to jump-start students’ educational careers, Williams argues, improving graduation rates and reducing costs.
