Five visiting Chinese musicians in the Dunhuang Academy Ancient Music Consort perform works from the Tang Dynasty and new music for the traditional Chinese instruments and a Bard Conservatory String Quartet.
Dean of the Bard College Conservatory of Music Tan Dun presents the Dunhuang Academy Ancient Music Consort with five visiting Chinese musicians in a special workshop performance of music from Tang Dynasty 618-907 A.D. (Translated from the original “Library Cave” manuscripts of the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang currently found in the collections of the French National Library). The instruments are replicas based on images found in the Dunhuang Mogao Cave murals with support by the Dunhuang Foundation and Tan Dun. The second part of the program features a Bard Conservatory string quartet performing new works alongside the traditional Chinese instruments.World-renowned artist and UNESCO Global Goodwill Ambassador Tan Dun has made an indelible mark on the world’s music scene with a creative repertoire that spans the boundaries of classical music, multimedia performance, and Eastern and Western traditions. A winner of many of today’s most prestigious honors and awards, Tan Dun’s music has been played throughout the world by leading orchestras, opera houses, international festivals, and on radio and television.
