Keeping It Local: Hudson Valley Current Offers Local Currency to Help Kingston Businesses Thrive, with Support from Mariel Fiori ’05 and La Voz
The nonprofit Hudson Valley Current offers a local currency to help local businesses thrive, and will open its own kitchen and market on Broadway in Kingston. La Voz, edited by Mariel Fiori ’05, is a Current member. This week, Fiori appeared on the front page of the Daily Freeman with Current Executive Director Chris Hewitt in an article about the Current and its community kitchen, Tilda’s.
Mariel Fiori is a Bard alumna, writer, editor, activist, and speaker. She cofounded La Voz in 2004 with Emily Schmall ’05, as a student Trustee Leader Scholar (TLS) project. Sixteen years later, the award-winning Spanish language magazine serves more than 150,000 Latinx readers living in the Hudson Valley and Catskill regions, and serves as a hub for local social justice work.
