Active Minds at Bard College Hosts Guest Speaker and Exhibition To Raise Suicide Awareness in April
On Monday, April 30 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm outside of the Kline Dining Commons, Active Minds at Bard hosts Send Silence Packing (SSP), an exhibit of 1,100 backpacks representing the number of college students lost to suicide each year. Active Minds Inc. has collected and continues to collect backpacks and personal stories from those who have lost a loved one to suicide. By displaying backpacks with personal stories, SSP delivers the message that preventing suicide is not just about lowering statistics, it is about saving the lives of students, daughters, sons, brothers, sisters, and friends across the nation. Contributions serve as a meaningful outlet for grief as well as a powerful way to raise awareness while working toward suicide prevention. In case of inclement weather, SSP will be held in the Multipurpose Room of the Bertelsmann Campus Center. This event is free of charge and open to all Bard and local community members.
For more information or to ask questions about Janelle Montano’s appearance or about Send Silence Packing, please contact Ashley Boltrushek, Active Minds at Bard Advisor, at [email protected] or (845) 758-7686.
About Active Minds at Bard
Active Minds at Bard works to utilize the student voice to change the conversation about mental health on our campus. We work to increase awareness, educate, and advocate about mental health in our community. We provide information and resources regarding mental health and mental illness, encourage students to seek help as soon as it is needed, and serve as a liaison between students and the mental health community. Through campus-wide events and national programs, Active Minds at Bard aims to remove the stigma surrounding mental health issues, and create a comfortable environment for an open conversation about mental health on campus.
