Bard College Arboretum Receives Grant From NYS Office Of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—Bard College Arboretum has been awarded an annual grant of $35,000 from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation through the Zoos, Botanical Gardens, and Aquariums Program (ZBGA). This grant will support tree work and student stipends at the Bard College Arboretum and is renewable for a five-year grant cycle.“On behalf of Governor Cuomo, I greatly appreciate the work that the Bard Arboretum is doing to advance the critical goal of educating New York residents and visitors about the diversity and beauty of the natural world by stewarding and interpreting living collections of plants and animals. This organization plays a vital role in the quality of life and economy of New York State,” writes New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation Commissioner Rose Harvey.
On Arbor Day, April 27, 2007, the entire 550-acre Bard College campus was dedicated to the Landscape and Arboretum Program. With the addition of the Montgomery Place Campus in 2016, Bard College now comprises nearly 1,000 forested acres. The Landscape and Arboretum Program’s mission is to preserve and enhance the natural and landscaped resources of the Bard College campus and to promote knowledge and appreciation of ornamental horticulture and conservation; as well as to provide a campus environment rich in horticultural diversity and beauty that can be readily enjoyed by the College and surrounding community. The Bard Arboretum’s future vision includes becoming a destination for individuals to understand and appreciate a nationally significant historical landscape in the Hudson Valley. Next year marks the 10th anniversary of the Bard Arboretum’s founding. Special events and activities throughout 2017 will mark the anniversary celebration.
