Bard Center for Environmental Policy Hosts Postelection Web Talk with Leading Climate Change Activist Bill McKibben On November 16

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—On Wednesday, November 16, as part of its twice-monthly National Climate Seminar series, the Bard Center for Environmental Policy will host a live web discussion, “The Postelection Climate for Climate Action,” with climate change activist Bill McKibben. Bill McKibben is the founder of 350.org, the first planet-wide, grassroots climate change movement. The Schumann Distinguished Scholar in Environmental Studies at Middlebury College and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, he was the 2013 winner of the Gandhi Prize and the Thomas Merton Prize, and holds honorary degrees from 18 colleges and universities. McKibben will host a postelection discussion about what needs to happen, and what new possibilities have opened up, to stabilize the climate.
 
Prior to the election, McKibben said, “Merely believing in climate change at this point is way too low a bar. We need leaders who understand it’s the issue of our century, and will work with the focus it requires.” As results rolled in election night, and it appeared Donald Trump—a climate-change denier—would be the next president of the United States, McKibben tweeted, “If Trump wins, it savages the planet’s chances of dealing with climate change. In the (very) long run, the biggest result of a hideous night.” Donald Trump won; now what?
 
National Climate Seminar
Bard Center for Environmental Policy hosts the twice-monthly webinar series, the National Climate Seminar, at 12 noon EST.
