AUTHOR OF VISUAL INTELLIGENCE, DONALD D. HOFFMAN WILL SPEAK AT BARD COLLEGE ON MONDAY, APRIL 26 AT 8:00 P.M.
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.-Author and scientist Donald D. Hoffman will speak at Bard College about the subject of his most recent book Visual Intelligence, on Monday, April 26, at 8:00 p.m. The lecture, the third in the series presented by the photography program at Bard College, is free and open to the public.Hoffman is a professor of cognitive science, philosophy, and information and computer science at the University of California, Irvine. Visual Intelligence, published by W. W. Norton and Company in 1998, explores the premise "how we create what we see." Hoffman explains, "Vision, as we shall see, has divulged many of its secrets to physicists, neurobiologists, perceptual psychologists, and researchers in computer vision. But, as we shall also discover, many interesting secrets are yet to be unveiled. These secrets, both revealed and unrevealed, of your visual intelligence are sure to pique in you the same admiration and curiosity that animate vision researchers."
Hoffman received his B.A. in Quantitative Psychology from UCLA in 1978 and his Ph.D. in Computational Psychology from MIT in 1983. He has been on the faculty of the University of California, Irvine, since 1983. Hoffman received the Distinguished Scientific Award of the American Psychological Association and the Troland Award of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.
