BARD COLLEGE OFFERS A FREE COLLEGE COURSE IN THE HUMANITIES IN PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—In partnership with the Philadelphia Education Fund and Temple University, the Bard College Clemente Course in the Humanities will offer college level classes in Philadelphia for low income individuals aged 17 and older. Tuition, books, child-care, and transportation are provided at no cost. Course participants study the great ideas and masterpieces of literature and poetry; philosophy; painting, sculpture, and architecture; and American history, while receiving instruction in writing. Students who successfully complete the course earn six college credits.

The goal of the Clemente Course, a national program now entering its fifth year of operation, is to bring higher education to low income residents of inner city and other poor communities. Many graduates of the course have gone on to pursue degrees at two- and four-year colleges.
