GALA CONCERT AT BARD COLLEGE ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 1 Features Gamelan Orchestras and Vocal and Jazz Ensembles
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The Music Program at Bard College presents the gala concert, free and open to the public, on Wednesday, December 1, at 8:00 p.m. The concert, featuring the vocal and jazz ensembles and the gamelan orchestra, will be held in Olin Hall.
Vocal Ensemble A
, under the direction of Joan Fuerstman, will perform three duets by Anton Dvorák, Opus 32, nos. 2, 3, and 5 ("If my Scythe were whetted sharp and keen;" "Speed thee, swallow;" and "Our little village"). Vocal Ensemble B, under the direction of Arthur Burrows, will perform "Innsbruck Ich Muss Dich Lassen" by Heinrich Issac; "April is in my mistress face" by Thomas Morley; "Ecco Mormorar l'Onde" by Thomas Morley; and "When Jesus Wept" by William Billings.The Jazz Guitar Ensemble, under the direction of Peter Einhorn, will play "On Green Dolphin Street" by Washington and Kaper. The Jazz Ensemble, with over twenty members, under the direction of Howard Johnson, will play three pieces by Theolonius Monk, "Bye-Ya," "Crepuscule with Nellie," and "Las Vegas Tango," and "Think About the One" by Pharoah Sanders.
The Gamelan Orchestras, under the direction of Ketut Suryatini, will perform five traditional Balinese pieces. Gamelan Chandra Kachana will play Gilak Sasak and Tabuh Telu. Ketut Suratini with guest artists will perform Sri Kandi, and Gamelan Giri Mekar with dancers will perform Puspa Warsti, and Candrawasih.
