TWO INTERGENERATIONAL SEMINARS WILL BE OFFERED AT BARD COLLEGE DURING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY—Two intergenerational seminars will be offered at Bard College during the month of November. These evening seminars provide a chance for Hudson Valley residents and Bard undergraduates to study together and exchange ideas and experiences. The seminar fee is $25.00 and preregistration is requested.
Robert Seder, visiting assistant professor of basic writing and associate of the Institute of Writing and Thinking at Bard College, is the author of To the Marrow, an account of his survival of a bone marrow transplant. He will lead the writers\' workshop on \"Writing Out Illness.\" The workshop will meet on two Thursdays, November 9 and 16, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. \"At some time in our lives, we all face serious illness: in ourselves, in our families, or in our work as caregivers. The story of illness is, for many of us, one that insists on its telling,\" says Seder. \"To those who have wanted to write about their own or another\'s illness, this workshop offers practices with which to start and sustain their writing. As we write and read together, the workshop becomes a respectful place to have our writing heard and to learn by listening to that of others.\" Seder concludes, \"The work may not be curative, but it may go some way toward making meaning of tough times. The workshop welcomes those with writing experience, as well as people new to writing as a pursuit.\"
\"The Arab World: Past and Present,\" will be taught by Justus Rosenberg, professor of languages and literature at Bard College, on Tuesdays, November 14, 21, and 28, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Rosenberg has recently returned from the Middle East and is familiar with the area and its problems. The topics the sessions, which focus on the axial periods and political developments in Arab history are: \"The Era of Conquest and Supremacy,\" \"Disruption and Decline,\" and \"Revolution and Resurgence.\"
