THE ANDREW W. MELLON FOUNDATION AND BARD COLLEGE PRESENT "TECHNOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOM: BEST PRACTICES," A PANEL DISCUSSION, ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22 Panelists include John Anzalone, Al Filreis, Dave Maswick, and Massimo Riva

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY—A panel discussion on the topic of \"Technology in the Classroom: Best Practices,\" will be presented on Thursday, February 22, by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and Bard College. The discussion will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Weis Cinema of the Bertelsmann Campus Center at Bard College, and is free and open to the public.

The first panel will be led by Massimo Riva, professor of Italian Studies, Brown University, who will discuss \"The Virtual Garden: Cultivating Discourse in Hyperspace.\" He will elucidate his interest in the theory and practice of electronic hypertext, both as an extraordinarily productive didactic tool and as a new frontier for fiction writing.

The second panel, at 10:30 a.m., will be led by Al Filreis, professor of English at the University of Pennsylvania, who will speak on the topic \"The Medium is the Message and Other Tall Tales of Teaching in the Information Age.\" He will explain methods used to transform traditional lecture formats into true collaborative seminars using the new technologies.

The third panel at, 11:00 a.m., will be led by John Anzalone, professor of French at Skidmore College, who will speak on \"Teaching with Image Bank Websites in Foreign Language and Literature.\" He will present a comprehensive overview of the websites he has designed for foreign language and literature courses at Skidmore College and Cornell University, outlining their development and their applications in his courses.

The final panel, at 11:30 a.m., will be led by Dave Maswick, director of information services, Emma Willard School, who will speak on the topic of \"Supporting the Curricular Use of Information Technology.\" He will examine the need to reconceptualize the type and range of support services necessary to nurture the true, thoughtful, and appropriate application of technology in curricular initiatives.
