"RACE AND HOME OWNERSHIP: A HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE" TO BE DISCUSSED BY ECONOMIST ROBERT MARGO AT BARD COLLEGE

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.-Economist Robert A. Margo, visiting professor of economics at Bard College and a senior scholar at The Jerome Levy Economics Institute of Bard College, will speak on the topic of "Race and Home Ownership: A Historical Perspective," on Tuesday, May 15 at Bard. The talk, presented by the Economics Program, is free and open to the public and begins at 6:00 p.m. in Room 102 of the F. W. Olin Humanities Building.

Robert A. Margo is the author of Race and Schooling in the South, 1880-1950: An Economic History; Wages and Labor Markets in the United States, 1820 to 1860; and Disenfranchisement, School Finance, and the Economics of Segregated Schools in the United States South, 1890-1910, as well as more than 75 articles, book chapters, and book reviews. He is a member of the editorial boards of American Economic Review, Social Science History, Southern Economic Journal, Explorations in Economic History, and the Journal of Economic History.

Margo, who teaches at Vanderbilt University, has also taught at Harvard and Colgate Universities and the University of Pennsylvania. He is a fellow of the Robert Penn Warren Center for the Humanities at Vanderbilt University and a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research. Margo received a Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1982. He is a past recipient of the Arthur H. Cole Prize from the Economic History Association, a grant from the University of Pennsylvania, and a fellowship from the National Science Foundation, among others. A specialist in the history of the American economy, Margo also teaches and does research in urban economics and labor economics.
