JONATHAN FLETCHER WORDSWORTH, AN INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED AUTHORITY ON ENGLISH ROMANTIC POETRY AND DESCENDENT OF POET WILLIAM WORDSWORTH, WILL LECTURE AT BARD COLLEGE "'Everything That Lives is Holy': The One Life in Romantic Poetry" is the topic of the
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.-Jonathan Fletcher Wordsworth, a descendent of Romantic poet William Wordsworth and an internationally renowned authority on English romantic poetry, will speak at Bard College on Monday, October 1. His lecture, presented by the Languages and Literature Program at Bard, will address the Platonism and pantheism recurrent in the writings of Romantic poets. "'Everything That Lives is Holy': The One Life in Romantic Poetry" is free and open to the public and begins at 5:00 p.m. in Room 203 of the F. W. Olin Humanities Building.
Chairman of the Wordsworth Trust, Professor Wordsworth has taught at Rutgers University, City University of New York, the University of Fribourg, and other schools and has lectured on over 100 campuses worldwide. He is considered the leading scholar-critic of his generation in the field of Wordsworth studies and, more widely, in studies in Romantic poetry.
Professor Wordsworth has written or edited 15 books, including The Poems of William Wordsworth (Cambridge University Press, 1973), William Wordsworth and the Age of English Romanticism (Rutgers University Press, 1987), and The Bright Work Grows: Women Writers of the Romantic Period (Woodstock Books, 1997), as well as numerous essays on a variety of topics.
