V-DAY BARD 2003 WILL PRESENT THREE PERFORMANCES OF THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES ON FEBRUARY 14, 15, AND 16
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—Three performances of Eve Ensler's Obie Award–winning play, The Vagina Monologues, will be held at Bard College beginning at 8:00 p.m. in the Old Gym on Friday, February 14; Saturday, February 15; and Sunday, February 16. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door. Proceeds from these performances, presented by V-Day Bard 2003, will benefit the Dutchess County Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
Elena Alschuler, a Bard student who is organizing the performances, says that in addition to presenting Ensler's play, Bard community members have created a Vagina Book that includes art and photography on a variety of issues. This book, edited by student Mara Bond, will be on sale during the performances for a $1 donation. Alschuler says that the premise of V-Day is that it is run, produced, and organized completely by students. The production is directed by Jill Sunderland, and the cast includes Lydia Anderson, Mara Bond, Brooke Borg, Sara Clarke, Anna Greenstone, Rachael Hunt, Victoria Jacobs, Leacey Nyberg, Renee Pena, Katie Ray, Jackie Singer, Deva Yeatman, and Farihah Zaman.
Hailed by the New York Times as "funny" and "poignant" and by the Daily News as "intelligent" and "courageous," The Vagina Monologues dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage, and excitement buried in women's experiences.
