"HOMOSEXUALITY IN BUDDHISM, JUDAISM, AND HINDUISM, PART II," THE FOURTH ANNUAL GOD AND SEXUALITY CONFERENCE AT BARD COLLEGE, WILL BE HELD ON APRIL 27
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The fourth annual God and Sexuality Conference will convene at Bard College on Sunday, April 27. A student-initiated academic event, the conference will afford a unique opportunity for students, scholars, and the general community to engage in a discussion centered on issues of religion, gender, and sexuality in a serious manner. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. in the Olin Atrium of the F. W. Olin Humanities Building at Bard.
The forum will offer academic presentations and workshop sessions. The presentations will focus on the relationships of the Buddhist, Hindu, and Jewish faiths with the greater lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. Presentations include "Traditional Views of Homosexuality in Buddhism" by Carol Anderson of Kalamazoo College; "Traditional Views of Homosexuality in Hinduism" by Ruth Vanita of the University of Montana; and "Modern Judaism and Homosexuality" by Bard alumnus Gabriel Blau '02.
Workshops will cover a broad range of topics that supplement the academic presentations. An evening event will feature a discussion with filmaker Parvez Sharma, on his work in progress, In the Name of Allah. This is a documentary on Islam and homosexuality; some scenes from the film will be shown.
The fee for the conference is $30 or $15 for students; there is an additional $10 charge for each meal (lunch or dinner). For further information or to register, visit the conference website at www.godandsexuality.org, e-mail gsc@bard.edu, or call conference director
K. C. Serota at 845-752-4090.
