THE THEATER PROGRAM AT BARD PRESENTS THE MUSICAL IN A PIG’S VALISE FROM MARCH 12–15

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—In A Pig’s Valise—a musical by Eric Overmyer directed by Sam Helfrich, with musical direction by James Bagwell—will be presented by the Bard Theater Program from Friday, March 12, through Monday, March 15. Free and open to the public, the performances take place in LUMA Theater of the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts and begin at 8:00 p.m., except Sunday, March 14, when performances are at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. (Please note that the show may not be appropriate for audiences under 14.)

If the characters in the musical—described as a "hard-boiled yarn with music"—seem drawn from a Raymond Chandler novel, that is probably not unintentional. The title is drawn from a phrase in Chandler’s The Little Sister, an insult meaning "not on your life." Set at the Heartbreak Hotel, temptress Dolores Con Leche hires rumpled private detective James Taxi to find her sister. The cast of In A Pig’s Valise includes Bard students Brian Maloney as Taxi, Kirsten Schneider as Con Leche, Blake Young as Zoot Alors, Matt Waldron as Root Choyce, S. Asher Gelman as The Bop Op, Isaac Yager as Blind Sax, Adam MacLean as Shrimp Bucket, Julia Tadlock as Mustang Sally, Emily Diaz as Dizzy Miss Lizzy, and Thomas Arndt and Brittany Parrinello.

Other upcoming performances at the Fisher Center, presented by the Theater Program at Bard, include the "Directors’ Festival," with works by student directors, March 24–25 and April 15–16 in the Resnick Theater Studio; and the "Playwrights’ Festival," with works by student playwrights, April 15–17 (8:00 p.m., with a Sunday matinee at 3:00 p.m.), also in the Resnick Theater Studio. Jim Calder’s advanced scene study class will present a collection of scenes, directed by Calder, in LUMA Theater on April 29–May 1 (8:00 p.m. with a Sunday matinee at 3:00 p.m.). In LUMA Theater, the Dance Program will offer "Spring Dance," featuring Moderation and other student choreography, April 9–13 at 8:00 p.m.; "May Dance," featuring Senior Project and faculty choreography, May 14–17 at 8:00 p.m. with a Saturday matinee at 3:00 p.m.; and an evening of "Spanish Dance," directed by Aileen Passloff, May 16–17 (performance at 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, and 7:00 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday). All these performances are free and open to the public.
