FREE DANCE PERFORMANCE TO BE STAGED IN SOSNOFF THEATER AT BARD’S RICHARD B. FISHER CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS Performance Celebrates Dedication of New Dance Studio
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – On Saturday, April 10, Bard College will present Dances at a Celebration, a dynamic program of dance performance in the Sosnoff Theater of the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. The program, which begins at 7:30 p.m., is free and open to the public, but advance tickets are required and can be reserved by calling 758-7900.
Dances at a Celebration features a diverse program of selected works choreographed by Bard dance faculty and choreographers in residence, performed by Bard dancers with special guest Arthur Aviles ’87, formerly of Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, now leader of the Arthur Aviles Typical Theater dance company in the South Bronx. The New York Times recently wrote, "If you don't know Mr. Aviles, you haven't seen one of the great modern dancers of the last 15 years."
"This program highlights a group of dances that demonstrates the variety of styles found in contemporary professional modern dance," said Jean Churchill, chair of Bard’s Dance Program. "Bard students are thrilled to perform on the wonderful stage of the Sosnoff Theater, and to share the evening with one of their own, Arthur Aviles, who, after graduating from the Drama/Dance Program in 1987, launched an acclaimed career as a performer and choreographer in New York City."
Churchill adds that this celebration highlights the significance of the Dance Program’s recent move into the Fisher Center, which she describes as a significant moment in the history of dance at Bard. "Our students are now able to develop their dance skills and choreograph in light-filled, generous studios; to perform original choreography in high quality theaters; and to work with guest dance companies who come to Bard College to teach and to perform for the Bard College and surrounding community."
Accompanying the dancers will be guest musicians Robert Martin, cello, and Julie Rosenfeld, violin.
Seating is limited. For reservations (required), call the Fisher Center box office at 845-758-7900.
