NEW ISSUE OF CONJUNCTIONS GATHERS RENOWNED CONTEMPORARY WRITERS AND POETS FOR AN EXPLORATION OF QUESTS
Conjunctions:44, An Anatomy of Roads: The Quest Issue, Includes Poetry and Fiction from Such Leading Contemporary Writers as John Barth, Robert Coover, Rikki Ducornet, Joshua Furst, William H. Gass, Joyce Carol Oates, and Joanna Scott ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.— Leaving home is a dangerous business. Whether it’s to walk across the street or travel to another continent, one never returns the same. The latest issue of Conjunctions—the literary magazine published by Bard College—explores in fiction and poetry the fascinating, complex process of defamiliarization as the ultimate path to knowing oneself. Conjunctions:44, An Anatomy of Roads: The Quest Issue includes work from John Barth, Robert Coover, Rikki Ducornet, William H. Gass, Joyce Carol Oates, Joanna Scott, and Paul West. “The trekkers in this atlas of spiritual travelogues follow roads that lead not just ahead or back, but often in unanticipated, oblique directions,” writes Bradford Morrow, Conjunctions editor, novelist, and Bard literature professor. “The roads tracked here lead downward at times, inward often, and, at least in one instance, straight into the sky. Some go home, many do not, but none who set a course remain unchanged by the journey.” In the new issue, Morrow, who was awarded an O. Henry Prize in 2003, contributes a short story, Gardener of Heart. In addition to those named above, An Anatomy of Roads features new work from Martine Bellen, Jonathan Carroll, Rebecca Curtis, Joshua Furst, Elizabeth Hand, Robert Kelly, Nathaniel Mackey, Carole Maso, Jon McGregor, Richard Meier, Carol Moldaw, Toby Olson, Susan Steinberg, Arthur Sze, Frederic Tuten, Deb Olin Unferth, and others. Conjunctions is edited by Bradford Morrow and published twice yearly by Bard College.
