Bard College Orchestra in Concert at Olin Hall on May 18
Free Program Features Works by Bach and Vivaldi
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The Bard College Orchestra, conducted by Nathan Madsen, presents a concert on Friday, May 18, at 8:00 p.m. in Olin Hall. The free concert features a performance of Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, with guest harpsichordist Frederick Hammond, and Vivaldi’s “Spring” from The Four Seasons. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Frederick Hammond, Irma Brandeis Professor of Romance Cultures and Music History at Bard, performs widely in Europe and the United States as solo organist and harpsichordist. He was the keyboard continuo player for the Los Angeles Philharmonic and has appeared with such conductors as Christopher Hogwood, Nicholas McGegan, Simon Rattle, and Leon Botstein.
Nathan Madsen, recently appointed music director of the Bard College Orchestra, was chosen at the age of 16 to conduct the Boys’ State Chorus in his native Utah. He received a master of fine art’s degree from The Conductors Institute at Bard, and has conducted the Da Capo Players and the Bard Musical Theatre Group. He is currently in his third season as staff conductor with the Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra. Madsen champions new music through his appearances at the Conductors Institute’s Composer-Conductor Week, and collaborated last November with the Scottish conceptual artist Martin Creed in a British commission for the dedication of the CCS Bard Hessel Museum.
