Bard College Orchestra in Concert at Olin Hall on October 28
Free Program Features Works by Beethoven, Sibelius, and Jack Phillips
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The Bard College Orchestra, conducted by Nathan Madsen, presents a concert on Sunday, October 28, at 3:00 p.m. in Olin Hall. The free concert features a performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 in C, Op. 21; Sibelius's Valse Triste, and Jack Phillips's Ten Stills. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Jack Phillips has composed for ensembles of all sizes and now spends much of his time writing computer music and designing interactive sound installations. His music for acoustic instruments has been performed in several cities on both the east and west coasts. His interest in the American experimental music tradition and music technology has led to an aesthetic perspective characterized by the exploration of the physical phenomenon of sound and its impact on listeners. He currently lives in Phoenix, Arizona, with his wife, Danielle.
Nathan Madsen, recently appointed music director of the Bard College Orchestra, received a master of fine arts degree from The Conductors Institute at Bard, and has appeared with the Da Capo Players and Woodstock Chamber Orchestra. He collaborated last November with the Scottish conceptual artist Martin Creed in a British commission for the dedication of the CCS Bard Hessel Museum. He also works with the Empire State Youth Orchestra.
The Bard College Orchestra's winter concert is on Tuesday, December 18, at 8:00 p.m. in Olin Hall.
