Selecting Your Roommates & Suitmates
Over half of the campus shares living quarters with their peers, and we want to do our best to support you in finding your best possible match. We always encourage folks to come to Room Selection with a few plans of Roommate options as last-minute changes are inevitable. Paired with PIEx allows around 15 students to select a double by themselves with a PIE student assigned over the summer. We host roommate and suitemate matching sessions, watch your Bard email for more information.

In MyAnnandale, you will need to complete 1-2 pre-selection processes. First, all students must complete the "Room Selection Check-In Form" prior to their start time. This form collects emergency contact information and has you sign the housing agreement. Second, all students planning to live in a double or triple room need to match with their roommates under the "My Roommates" tab. To do so, launch the tab and change the term to "Fall 2024". From there, the "Search for a Roommate" option will appear. You can search for someone you know or by profiles. Once you have requested each other, you will need to hit the "Match" button to become a matched group. Current First-Year students without a matched roommate will not be able to select a room until they have a matched roommate. -

Selecting Your Room
All students planning to live on campus will pick their specific room at an individually assigned Room Selection Start Time. Your Start time is based on your draw number and is visible on MyAnnandale. There are a few groups of selection start times based on completed college-earned credits. At these times, students will select their specific room (along side their roommate(s) if applicable) and finalize their decision to live on campus for the next academic year. If you cannot access MyAnnandale at your selection time, call ResLife at (845)758-7455 during your selection time and we will complete your selection over the phone.
Room Selection Numbers + Start Times
Room Selection Numbers + Start Times
All current students are assigned a random, computer-generated number within their class level. The selection number (lowest to highest) determines the order in which a student chooses a room within a class level. Class levels are based on credits completed by January 1 of the year of selection; in-process credits are not considered. These numbers are not transferable under any circumstances.Class Level | Credits | Draw Number |
Senior* | 92+ | 1 - 999 |
Junior | 60-91 | 1,000 - 1,999 |
Sophomore | 28-59 | 2,000 - 2,999 |
First-Year | 0-27 | 3,000 - 3,999 |
(Note: Class level represents your current class level. This means "senior" tends to refer to fifth-year conservatory students and students graduating in December. Students applying to senior select housing tend to be current juniors.)
You can view your total completed credits on BIP. If you believe there is a discrepancy in your credit total, please connect with the Office of the Registrar. If an adjustment is made, please reach out to us via [email protected] once the adjustment has appeared on your BIP.

Substance-Free Living
Substance-free living experience on the Bard campus! All students in the room selection process are eligible to live in this community.
For the past three years, around 40 first-year students have been selected into substance-free housing, a community that will fit well within the walls of Keen Hall. This move will also allow for rooms in Keen to be made available, seeking out a substance-free environment, both double rooms for students with less than 28 credits and possibly single rooms for students with more than 28 credits.
What Is Substance-Free Living?
Students choosing to live in substance-free housing agree to the following additional community standards:
1. Alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs should not be brought in or used in the hall.
2. Students will not return to the hall under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and become disruptive to the community by their actions.
3. Students will be responsible for their guest's compliance with the hall rules and may be held accountable based on the situation.
4. A student may be relocated to another residence on campus if they fail to abide by the community's rules. Other disciplinary action may result depending on the situation.

Bard features both Women's-Only First-Year and Upper-College residences. The locations change based on the need for Women's-Only housing, but are currently Rueger and Steinway on South Campus. These residence halls have only women assigned to live in them, yet residents are welcome to bring guests of any gender identity over at any time. Please note, staff of any gender may be working in the residence to clean, repair, maintain, ensure security, or community-build.
Why do we offer Women's-Only Housing?
With exception to this community, all of Bard's residences are gender inclusive by design with no gendered restrooms or floors in any residence halls. We offer the Women's-Only community to all students who identify as women. Historically, Women's-Only housing has been requested by students with specific religious backgrounds as well as survivors of sexual assault. You do not need a reason to want to live in the Women's-Only community, but it is important to recognize that your neighbors in the community may have a specific reason for wanting to live here. We ask that folks take extra respect when selecting into these residences, while guests of any gender identity are welcome it is important to have open communication within this community.

Live the Suite Life in Resnick Commons
The Resnick Commons neighborhood features four- and five-person suites. To live in a suite, students apply in specific groupings.
Resnick Suites are four- or five-person apartment-like spaces with three bedrooms, a common room with a kitchen, and a bathroom shared with the residents of the suite. Suite residents are responsible for the regular cleaning and upkeep of their private living spaces. Suites are all located in buildings that house four suites and one laundry room shared within the 16–20 residents of the hall.
Four-Person Suites
Four-person suites house two students in two single rooms and two students in one double room. These suites are located in Resnick B, D, E, F, H, and I. Four-person suite applications with two seniors and two sophomores will be prioritized over other configurations. Ideally, the single rooms will be assigned to junior- and senior-level students, and doubles will be assigned to sophomore-level students. We welcome all applications and encourage understanding of this prioritization.
Five-Person Suites
Five-person suites house one student in one single room and four students in two double rooms. These suites are located in Resnick J, K, and L. Five-person suite applications with one senior and four sophomores will be prioritized over other configurations. Ideally, the single room will be assigned to junior- and senior-level students and doubles will be assigned to junior or sophomore-level students. We welcome all applications and encourage understanding of this prioritization.

Living Off Campus
In their second year on campus, students have the option to apply to live off campus for their third year and beyond. Students living off-campus must attend an information session and declare intent to live off-campus before room selection.
All first-year and sophomore students are required to live on campus (with exceptions for commuting students whose permanent residence is within 50 miles of campus). All students are subject to an academic year-long housing contract and cannot move off campus mid-academic year. Rising junior and senior students are able to apply to live off campus by attending an information session and declaring their intent to live off campus by emailing [email protected].
Off-Campus Information Sessions tend to be about an hour long and encourage students to watch out for issues we see students living off campus face consistently. Upon completing the session, students sign in to declare a potential intent to live off campus.
Students can register their off-campus residence anytime after attending the information session and declaring intent to live off-campus to [email protected]
Where will Returning Students Live?
Every year we adjust which double rooms will be used for returning students versus new incoming students based on our planned occupancy. It is important to use this list to get the best picture of what will be available at the start of room selection.

Suite Applications + Selections
All across campus we have unique spaces and suites to which we welcome all groups of students to apply. Our goal in these applications is to have intentional groups house together to create the best on-campus experience.
-
Can we apply to both four- and five-person suites?
Can we apply to both four- and five-person suites?
Yes! Students can apply in as many different group makeups and suite/special spaces across campus as they would like to apply to. We approve all the applications we can in our initial run, so a student may be offered both four- and five-person suites and that person will then need to choose which group to go with. Note, groups will NOT have the chance to restructure after these approvals go out—if one person cancels from the group, the next group on the waitlist will receive an offer for the suite. -
Do we have to have a senior in our group to get a suite?
Do we have to have a senior in our group to get a suite?
Technically, no. We welcome all groups of students to apply. No student with less than 60 credits (or a disability services accommodation for a single room) will be placed in a single room, so this will prevent your group from being approved. Suites are granted through seniority, so groups with two seniors will get the suite before a group with a senior and a junior, etc. -
I have an accommodation for a single room, can I apply for a suite?
I have an accommodation for a single room, can I apply for a suite?
Yes! As someone approved to live in a single room, you can fill a single in a suite application. Please note, a single accommodation alone does not move you up in the prioritization of seniority for single rooms. All the suite applications with students holding 28+ credits will be approved for their suite prior to your group—but still apply! In the past, several groups have made it into suites with this configuration. -
Can we change who is in our suite group?
Can we change who is in our suite group?
All special applications can be edited and revised until the deadline. At that time, applications can only be canceled not changed.
Frequent Questions + Concerns
-
How do incoming First Year students participate in Room Selection?
Incoming Students are assigned housing through a manual process in which the Residence Life and Housing team reviews each housing profile to best match an incoming student with a roommate or two. From here, the team actively curates the residence hall communities by both balancing personalities and working to ensure all residents will be able to connect to their peers in the residence. -
Do students in the 3+2 or 4+1 dual degree programs select at Room selection?
Do students in the 3+2 or 4+1 dual degree programs select at Room selection?
4+1 graduate students attend room selection and are placed in undergraduate housing through Year 4. After Year 4, these students no longer attend room selection but in the spring may request on campus housing for Year 5 through the graduate housing profile.
3+2 graduate students attend room selection and are placed in undergraduate housing through Year 4. After Year 4, 3+2 students no longer attend room selection but in the spring may request on campus housing for Year 5 through the graduate housing profile. -
How do graduate students select housing?
How do graduate students select housing?
There are a limited number of on-campus graduate housing options. Students interested in living on Bard’s campus must submit a Housing Form using their Bard credentials. All questions regarding on-campus housing should be directed to the graduate program the student will be attending.
Room Selection + Going Abroad
With so many opportunities for you and your next year here at Bard, room selection can be a bit confusing. In short, students studying abroad during the semester of selection should be able to select a space for their return via MyAnnandale. Students studying abroad in the next fall semester will not be selecting space through room selection.
-
I am abroad, remote, or on a leave right now, how do I select a room?
I am abroad, remote, or on a leave right now, how do I select a room?
Students currently studying abroad should select a room at room selection via MyAnnandale. If you are unable to access MyAnnandale at your selection time, complete our Digital Proxy Selection form to allow a representative from Residence Life select your specific room at the time of your draw number. Please continue to monitor your @bard.edu address throughout the spring semester for full information on the room selection process. Students studying abroad in the spring semester must attend an off-campus information session prior to going abroad to be able to live off campus when they return to Annandale-on-Hudson.

I plan to be away in the Fall, do I select a room now?
Students should not select a room at Room Selection if they are not living on campus in Annandale in the fall semester. These students will be sent a housing profile form in November so that we may best consider students' preferences in placing them in available housing for the spring semester.

Living Off Campus
Undergraduate students at Bard are required to live on campus for their first two years (some exceptions apply). In their junior/senior year, students may choose to live off campus after attending an Off-Campus Living Information Session.
Withdrawing from College Housing:
Students not needing college housing for the fall 2024 semester need to email Reslife. This includes students who are graduating at the end of this semester, studying abroad for the fall 2024 semester, living off campus (must have 60+ credits), taking a leave of absence (must have approval from the Dean of Student Affairs Office), etc. This email to [email protected] must be sent by noon on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Students who do not email by this deadline will be charged the entire cost of housing unless they have been approved for a leave of absence by the Dean of Student Affairs Office.
