Why do we offer Women's Only Housing?
With exception to this community, all of Bard's residences are gender inclusive by design with no gendered restrooms or floors in any residence halls. We offer the Women's Only community to all students who identify as Women. Historically, Women's only housing has been requested by students with specific religious backgrounds as well as survivors of sexual assault. You do not need a reason to want to live in the Women's Only community, but it is important to recognize that your neighbors in the community may have a specific reason for wanting to live here. We ask that folks take extra respect when selecting into these residences, while guests of any gender identy are welcome it is important to have open communication within this community.

For the past three years, around 40 first-year students have selected substance-free housing, a community that will fit well within the walls of Keen Hall. This move will also allow for rooms in Keen to be made available, seeking out a substance-free environment, both double rooms for students with less than 28 credits and single rooms for students with more than 28 credits.
What is Substance Free Living?
Students choosing to live in substance-free housing agree to the following additional community standards:
1. Alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs should not be brought in or used in the hall. 2. Students will not return to the hall under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and become disruptive to the community by their actions. 3. Students will be responsible for their guest's compliance with the hall rules and may be held accountable based on the situation. 4. A student may be relocated to another residence on campus if they fail to abide by the rules of the community. Other disciplinary actions may result depending on the situation.

Graduate Student Communities
Graduate Student Communities
Based on availability, we work to utilize small residences on campus to build intentional cohorts of Graduate students. These spaces tend to house less than ten fellow graduate students in double and single rooms with single user restrooms and spacious community kitchens.
Creating A Themed Living Community
Returning students have the ability to propose and cultivate a Themed Living Experience on campus. Currently, students have created "Health House" and "Sustainability House" in the treehouses of Cruger Village. Stay tuned for more information on creating communities in future years.
Creating A Themed Living Community
Theme housing is designed to give students a way to level up their residential experience. With themes in the past including Health House, Substance Free Housing, and Sustainability House, these student-driven communities take the traditional Peer Counselor lead community development. Theme communities tend to fit nicely in smaller residences allowing a tight bond to form within the group of residents.
Proposing a Theme All returning students are welcome to propose a theme via the link below. By proposing a theme, you are committing to live in and lead the community - typically in a single room when possible. Theme proposals should be open and welcoming to all returning students to apply to, with a selection process outlined by the proposer and completed by the Residence Life team.
Applying to a Theme Community Once the theme proposals are chosen, applications will go live here & be announced via email. The physical locations of the theme communities will not be chosen until after a cohort of applicants is chosen. Residence Life will pick the location of best fit based on application pool and theme proposal, this may yeld a waitlist for the more popular themes.
Theme Living Proposal Guidelines Proposal must be submitted for review by 3 PM Friday, March 13, 2020. Notification of a decision will be made shortly thereafter.
• A theme house is intended to provide an opportunity for students to live in an intentional community centered around an inclusive campus ethos/idea/hobby/interest.
• The student whose theme is selected is assigned as the TLC Liaison and becomes the primary contact to the Residence Life & Housing team. This person will be responsible for consistent communication regarding the community, its activities and concerns.
• A designated Themed Living Community is intended for one academic year only and is not automatically renewable.
• Academic and social standing will be considered when reviewing the applications received.
• In the event that a proposal is not accepted, participation can still take place in the general room draw selection process as per draw number.
• Students assigned to a theme house are expected to share their space with the greater community through programming and activities (at least two programs each semester).
